RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

 

 

The long-term mission of our research program is to obtain an integrated, quantitative understanding of cells and viruses at molecular resolution. We take an interdisciplinary approach to this problem by combining novel technologies for 3D imaging with computational and cell biological tools.

Our research efforts are presently focused on four areas:

  1. Structural analysis of membrane transporters and dynamic protein complexes involved in signaling and metabolism

  2. Structure and structural variations of enveloped virus glycoproteins and their applicability to vaccine design

  3. 3D subcellular imaging with correlative light and electron microscopy to explore host-pathogen interactions

  4. The development of methods for high-resolution cryo-EM
3D reconstruction of a melanoma cell
 

The technical infrastructure of the laboratory includes a variety of high-end electron microscopes for TEM and FIB-SEM imaging, as well as infrastructure for biochemistry, cell biology, and biophysical analysis.
